A few years back I ran my own business and got quite experienced at issuing press releases in order to get the press to give me some free publicity. I went on a course to learn how the system works and even managed to get national coverage a couple of times, so am happy to file a few press releases to local papers.
The good news is that local papers are always desperate for stories, especially if they come ready-written.
The bad news is that “there is a singing group called Bristol A Cappella” isn't a story. That said, they don't need much of a hook to change their minds. “Bristol shoppers got a surprise last Saturday when singers from Bristol A Cappella choir filled Broadmead with impromptu singing” might work, especially as we're such a good-looking bunch.
So any ideas for a “story” would be gratefully received. So far I've thought...
- Flash mobbing - “BAC raises money for charity”. Obviously this would need to involve raising money for charity but I thought I'd sow a seed - Anything topical that ties in with the current zeitgeist, e.g. sporting events, Xmas, etc
Anything else spring to mind? Brainstorm as much as you like.
